- It is LA County’s fifth largest city and the 34th largest in the state.
- The most common industry employing Torrance men is professional, scientific or technical services whereas a majority of the city’s women find employment in health care or educational services.
- There must be something in the water. Torrance was the birthplace of a lot of professional athletes including Michelle Kwan, Aaron Holbert, Brandon, Chad Morton, Chris Demaria, Clark Haggans, Daniel Graham, David Wells, Denny Hocking and John Welbourn.
- Torrance’s Del Amo Fashion Center at 2.5 million square feet is one of the largest malls in the U.S. Depending on the measurements used, it is either the second largest (after the Mall of America) or the fourth largest. The current mall was created when Del Amo Center, built in 1958, merged with Del Amo Fashion Square, built in 1970. It can be seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown and Bad Santa.

- The facade of Torrance High, one of California’s oldest high schools, should be familiar to TV viewers as it was used in “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.” Not to be outdone, nearby South High was used as a location for Best Picture Oscar winner American Beauty.
- Because of the large Japanese commercial and industrial presence, the city has one of the highest concentrations of Japanese expatriates and Japanese-Americans living in the United States. In 1973, a sister city program was established with Kashiwa, Chiba, and an annual Japanese cultural festival and student exchange program were started.
- Madrona Marsh, one of the country's few urban wetlands, is a nature preserve on undeveloped land once set aside for oil production.
