- Dockweiler State Beach, partially located in El Segundo, hosts the state’s only RV park on the beach.
- N.Y. hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest’s second single from their debut, consistently named one of the best hip hop albums, is about leaving a wallet in El Segundo. El Segundo circa 1974 is also the setting for Blink 182’s “First Date” video.
- One of the last remaining populations of the endangered Blue Butterfly is El Segundo. The airport’s construction, oil refining, sand mining and urbanization have claimed large portions of the dunes the species calls home and non-native vegetation threatens their host plant’s survival, but in recent years U.S. Fish and Wildlife, LAX and Standard Oil have undertaken dune management programs to save the insect.
