Look out Webster’s, there’s a new definition entry in town and we couldn’t be more juiced about it. After years of less-than-extensive coverage of the South Bay’s finest activities and retail offerings on CitySearch and other media, a team of folks bound by their Internet savvy and love of SoBa (To be clear, although yummy, we aren’t talking about Asian noodles!) set out to create a thorough online resource for all things cool, luxurious, historic, fun, unique, important, family-oriented, healthy and tasty in Surf-burbia. And thus, the SouthBayNectar.com seed was planted.

We envisioned a virtual community where residents, day-trippers and tourists alike were welcome and that reflected the casual, multi-cultural, hip and friendly vibe of bayside neighborhoods including El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. It was to be a site where the user could find all the things SoBa whether looking for a day spa or doggie daycare, birthday party venue or bakery, town history or a 10K run, community theatre or cocktails, government numbers or gumbo. It would also be a place where local businesses could connect with their consumer base and offer exclusive deals and discounts. It would be a community forum and calendar.

And because we’ve dedicated countless hours separating the sweet from the swill, Nectar is the perfect name to evoke everything we are trying to accomplish with the site— fresh, undiluted, reliable coverage of the sweetest spots, citizens and services in the South Bay. We think it would have pleased the Gods. At the very least, they’d know where to buy True Religion jeans, grab the best pizza or stock up on wine for their next bacchanal.
